There’s clapping back at a teacher, and then there’s writing a 127-page paper explaining to your teacher, in explicit, heavily sourced detail, why gay marriage is a right.
An 11th grader at a Catholic high school in Missouri who was assigned a paper explaining why the church is correct in condemning gay marriage instead turned in a 127-page report defending it.
The student shared the story and the report, titled “Gay Marriage is Fabulous,” with his name redacted on Reddit.
“The exact words my teacher said in class were that you have to provide the church teaching to ‘show and prove that the church’s position is right,” wrote the student, using the Reddit handle “averagesmurf,” without identifying his school or teacher.
The student, who lives with his devout Catholic grandparents and identifies as bisexual, then spent the next four months working on his paper, which is titled “Gay Marriage Is Fabulous”. The end result is a thoughtful and well-written 127-page argument defending marriage equality and refuting claims the Bible is, in fact, against it.
